 The Seven Covenants

The Seven Covenants of the Old Testament.
- Edenic Covenant. ~ Elohim's promise in creation.
- Adamic Covenant. ~ Elohim's promise and Protection.
- Noahic Covenant. ~ Elohim's promise and Preservation.
- Abrahamic Covenant. ~ YAHWEH's promise and Redemption.
- Mosaic Covenant. ~ YAHWEH's promise and Instruction.
- Davidic Covenant. ~ YAHWEH's promise and His Kingdom.
- Renewed Covenant. ~ YAHWEH's promise and Restoration.
Edenic Covenant. (Elohim's promise in creation)
YAHWEH's Divine order of creation with each day of the creation week being built on the other.
The word "covenant" is not used until Genesis 6:18, however there is enough covenantal language and elements in Genesis 1 and 2,
as well as other scriptures that confirm the Edenic
Covenant.
The prophet Isaiah stated that when Elohim created the heaven and earth He did not create it in vain, but He
formed it to be inhabited.
Isa 45:18 For so says YAHWEH, Creator of the heavens; He is The Elohim, forming the earth and making it;
He makes it stand, not creating it empty†, but forming it to be lived in. I am YAHWEH, and compared to Me there is none else. °
~ Isaiah 45:18 This Hebrew word from Gen 1:2, does not mean that the original earth was not created void or empty as it states, but that it was made with the intent to be created and inhabited.
Gen 1:14-19
And Elohim said, Let light sources be in the expanse of the heavens,
to divide between the day and the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons†(Annual Times and Sabbaths), and for days and years.
And let them be for light sources in the expanse of the heavens, to give light on the earth. And it was so.
And Elohim made the two great light sources the great light to rule the day, and the small light and the stars to rule the night.
And Elohim set them in the expanse of the heavens, to give light on the earth,
and to rule over the day and over the night; and to divide between the light and the darkness. And Elohim saw that it was good.
And there was evening, and there was morning, day four.
Gen 8:22
While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Jer 31:35-36 So says YAHWEH, who gives the sun for a light by day, the laws of the moon,(Annual Times and Sabbaths), and the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar,YAHWEH of Hosts is His name†.
If these ordinances depart from before Me, says YAHWEH, the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me forever.
~ Jeremiah 31:35 It is YAHWEH making this covenant.
Jer 33:19-26
And the Word of YAHWEH was to Jeremiah, saying,
So says YAHWEH, If you can break My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night, and there should not be day and night in their time,
then My covenant with My servant David may also be broken, that he should not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levitical priests, My attendants.
As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so I will multiply the seed of My servant David, and the Levites who minister to Me.
And the Word of YAHWEH was to Jeremiah, saying,
Have you not observed what these people have spoken, saying, The two families† that YAHWEH has chosen, has He also rejected them? And they despise My people, no more to be a nation before them.
So says YAHWEH, If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of the heavens and earth,
then I also will reject the seed of Jacob, and My servant David, not to take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will bring back their captivity and have pity on them†.
Psal 89:34-38
I will not profane My covenant, nor change what goes from My lips.
Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.
His Seed shall be forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.†
Like the moon, it shall be forever; and a faithful witness in the sky. Selah.
But You have cast off and rejected us; You have passed over on Your anointed.
~ Psalms 89:36 The covenant is with the seed of David and fulfilled in Yahshua, who is a descendent of King David.
Adamic Covenant. (Elohim's promise and Protection).
The Adamic covenant uniquely placed humanity as the focal point of Elohim's creation and defined the purpose for Mankind.
Created in the image and likeness of Elohim, this covenant was the first expression on earth of the pre-existent, everlasting covenant in Heaven.
The Covenant included the command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, pronounced a curse for sin,
and spoke of a future provision for man's redemption.
Gen 1:26-27
And Elohim said, let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;†
and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,
and over all the creepers creeping on the earth.
And Elohim created the man in His own image; in the image of Elohim He created him.
He created them male and female.
~ Genesis 1:26 Man was made in the image of Yahweh however, to be made in His likeness, denotes to have the character that He has and that does not come by instantaneous fiat but by a life-long commitment to conquer ones fallen human nature, to build patience and self-control and to 100% fully submit to the spirit of YHWH and His Torah on how to love and worship Him and how to love our neighbor as ourselves. Gen 9:6
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed;
He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel. †
~ Genesis 3:15 This is the very first messianic scripture promising redemption directly after the sin of the man and woman. It is interesting that the prophecy is for a redeemer to come from the seed of a woman when most times in scripture legal genealogies come through a man. This is a hint to the virgin birth, Isa 7:14.
Noahic Covenant. (Elohim's promise and Preservation).
The covenant Elohim established with Noah, his family, all future generations and creation itself after the Flood.
Noah and His Sons are told to be fruitful and multiply, that they would rule over the animals, and finally that never again would a universal flood occur.
The seal of this covenant is His Rainbow - His promise to never flood the earth again.
This covenant reveals Elohim's desire that every person would reflect His character, have dominion, be fruitful , being endowed with eternal life and in a covenantal relationship with Him.
Genesis 9:1-3
And Elohim blessed Noah and his sons. And He said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
And your fear and your dread shall be on all the animals of the earth, and on every bird of the heavens, on all that moves on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hands.
Every creeping thing which is alive shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green plant. †
Genesis 9:7-17
And you, be fruitful and multiply. Swarm over the earth and multiply in it.
And Elohim spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
Behold! I, even I, am establishing My covenant with you, and with your seed after you,
and with every living creature which is with you, among fowl, among cattle, and among every animal of the earth with you, from all that go out from the ark, to every animal of the earth.
And I have established My covenant with you, and all flesh shall not be cut off again by the waters of a flood; nor shall there ever again be a flood to destroy the earth.
And Elohim said, This is the sign of the covenant which I am about to make between Me and you, and every living soul which is with you, for everlasting generations.
I have set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.
And it will be when I gather the clouds on the earth, then the bow shall be seen in the clouds.
And I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you, and every living soul in all flesh. And the waters shall not again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
And the bow shall be in the clouds, and I shall see it, to remember the everlasting covenant between Elohim and every living soul, in all flesh on the earth.
And Elohim said to Noah, This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.
~ Genesis 9:3 Of course this is with the already given instructions on clean and unclean animals, Gen 7:2, Gen 8:20.
Abrahamic Covenant. (YAHWEH's promise and Redemption).
This covenant, first made to Abraham in Genesis 12:1–3, promised YAHWEH's blessing upon Abraham, to make his name great and to make his progeny into a great nation. The covenant also promised blessings to those who blessed Abraham and curses to those who cursed him.
YAHWEH vowed to bless the entire world through Abraham's seed.
Circumcision was the sign that Abraham believed the covenant.
The fulfillment of this covenant is seen in the history of Abraham's descendants,
and the worldwide blessing that came through Yahshua Messiah, who was of Abraham's family line.
Gen 12:1-3 And YAHWEH had said to Abram, Go out from your land and from your kindred, and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you.
And I will make of you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great; and you will be a blessing.
And I will bless those who bless you, and curse the one despising you. And in you all families of the earth shall be blessed † .
~ Genesis 12:3 Yahweh's first promise of covenant blessing to Abraham and a prophecy for all time that all nations should support the House of Israel if they want to be blessed.
Gen 17:1-7 And when Abram was ninety nine years old, YAHWEH appeared to Abram and said to him, I am El Shaddai! Walk before me and be perfect;
and I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will increase you very greatly.
And Abram fell on his face. And Elohim spoke with him, saying,
As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
And your name no longer shall be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham. For I have made you a father of many nations. †
And I will make you very fruitful, exceedingly. And I will give you fornations. And kings shall come out of you.
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and your seed after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a Elohim to you and to your seed after you.
~ Genesis 17:5 Abram means “exulted Father”, referencing Elohim, but Abraham means “father of many” and gives great significance to Abraham's new name from Yahweh.
Gen 17:9-11 And Elohim said to Abraham, You shall keep My covenant, you and your seed after you in their generations.
This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your seed after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised.
And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin. And it shall be a token of the covenant between Me and you. †
~ Genesis 17:11 Circumcision was not the covenant itself but a sign of the covenant with YHWH.
Gen 26:3-5 Stay in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands.
And I will cause to rise My oath which I swore to your father Abraham.
And I will increase your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I will give to your seed all these lands. And all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves in your Seed, because Abraham listened to My voice and heeded My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My Torah. †
~ Genesis 26:5 The reason stated here why Abraham was blessed to be the heir of the everlasting covenant was that in faith he kept the Torah and commandments of YAHWEH. This proves that the Torah was present here at the beginning of the covenant and was not added at Mount Sinai 430 yrs after the covenant was made with Abraham. Only the Levitical priesthood was added later, see note By Faith or By Works of the Law.
Mosaic Covenant. (YAHWEH's promise and Instruction).
This conditional covenant, which promised the Israelites a blessing for obedience and a curse for disobedience.
The the tablets of stone, and the Torah, and the Commandments are given, and the establishment of the Levitical Priesthood, and ceremonies.
Much of the Old Testament chronicles the fulfillment of this cycle of judgment for sin and blessing when God's people repented and returned to Him.
Exo 19:5-6 And now if listening you will listen to My voice, and will keep My covenant, you shall become a special treasure to Me above all the nations, for all the earth is Mine. And you shall become a kingdom of priests for Me, a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the sons of Israel.
Exo 24:12 And YAHWEH said to Moses, Come up to Me to the mountain, and be there. And I will give to you the tablets of stone, and the Torah, and the commandments which I have written, to teach them.
Exo 31:12-18 And YAHWEH spoke to Moses, saying,
And you speak to the sons of Israel, charging them, only My Sabbaths you shall keep; for it is a sign between Me and you for your generation; to know that I am YAHWEH your sanctifier†.
And you shall keep the Sabbath, for it is holy for you; the profaners of it shall surely be executed; for everyone doing work in it, that soul shall be cut off from the midst of his people.
Work may be done six days, and on the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to YAHWEH; everyone doing work on the Sabbath day surely shall be put to death.
And the sons of Israel shall guard the Sabbath, to observe and do the Sabbath for their generations; it is a never ending covenant.
It is a sign forever between Me and the sons of Israel; for in six days YAHWEH made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.†
And when He finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave to Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of Elohim.†
~ Exodus 31:12-18 clearly shows the eternal Sabbath covenant that Yahweh has made to His children for eternity that shows who He is as Creator and His blessing of rest to those that enter His family covenant.
~ Exodus 31:16-17 The Sabbath is a most special and intimate covenant between YHWH and His children forever. It is a wonderful blessing He gives every 7th day for His set apart elect covenant people to be able to leave the world and enter a type of the millennial rest from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday every week. True believers are commanded here that they are to guard and protect this special blessing.
Deu 4:-84 And those of you clinging to YAHWEH your Elohim are alive today, all of you.
See, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, as YAHWEH my Elohim has commanded me, to do them, in the midst of the land where you are going in, to possess it,
and you shall keep and do them, for it shall be your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these statutes. And they shall say, This great nation is a people wise and understanding†.
For who is a great nation whose Elohim is coming near to them, as YAHWEH your Elohim is, in all our calling on Him?
And who is a great nation whose statutes and judgments are as righteous as all the Torah, which I set before you today†?
~ Deuteronomy 4:6 The word Torah means “instruction”. It was given as a manual to teach the people how to live a righteous, wisdom filled life. Understanding this fact; how could a spirit filled person ever say it is done away with? Pro 1:7-9, Pro 2:1-2, Pro 3:1-2
~ Deuteronomy 4:8 The Torah separates believers from other people of the world. Rom_7:12, Psa_119:172, Psa_19:7-11
Davidic Covenant. (YAHWEH's promise and His Kingdom).
This unconditional covenant, promised to bless David's family line and assured an everlasting kingdom.
Yahshua is from the family line of David and, as the Son of David, He is the fulfillment of this covenant.
2Sa 7:8-16 And now, so you shall say to My servant, to David, So says YAHWEH of Hosts, I have taken you from the good pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and not be made to tremble any more. Nor shall the sons of evil afflict them again, as at the first,
even from the day I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. And I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. And YAHWEH declares to you that YAHWEH will make you a house.
When your days are fulfilled, and you lie with your fathers, then I shall raise up your seed after you, who shall come out from your loins, and I shall establish his kingdom.
He shall build a house for My Name, and I shall establish the throne of his kingdom forever.†
I shall be a father to him, and he shall be a son to Me. If He takes iniquity upon Himself, then I will chasten him with a rod of men, and with strokes of the sons of men.
But My mercy shall not be taken from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
And your house shall be sure, and your kingdom before me forever. Your throne shall be established forever.
Psa 110:1-7 A Psalm of David. A declaration of YAHWEH to my Adonai: Sit at My right hand, until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.†
YAHWEH shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion to rule in the midst of Your enemies.
Your people shall have willingness in the day of Your might; in the majesties of holiness; from the womb of the dawn, to You is the dew of Your youth.
YAHWEH has sworn and will not repent: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.†
YAHWEH at Your right hand shatters kings in the day of His anger.†
He shall judge among the nations; He shall fill with dead bodies; He shall shatter heads over much land.
He shall drink out of the torrent on the way; therefore, He shall lift up the head.
~ Psalms 110:4 The Levitical order was an added temporary measure to bridge the people from their sin of the golden calf at Mount Sinai to the appearing of Messiah and the Melchizedek order.
~ Psalms 110:5 Whereas in verse 1, the Messiah sitting at Yahweh's right hand is called Adonai, now He is called Yahweh, showing Yahweh to be a family name consisting of Yah Yahweh the Father Psa 68:4 and Yahshua Yahweh the Son Act 2:38.
Luk 1:32-3 This One will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. And YAHWEH Elohim will give Him the throne of His father David.
And He will reign over the house of Jacob to the ages, and of His kingdom there will be no end.
Mar 10:47-48 And hearing that it was Yahshua the Nazarene, he began to cry out and to say, Son of David, Yahshua, have mercy on me!
And many warned him that he be quiet. But he much more cried out, Son of David, have mercy on me!
Rev 1:5-8 even from Yahshua Messiah the Faithful Witness, the First-born out of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him loving us and washing us from our sins by His blood, and made us kings and priests to YAHWEH, even His Father. To Him is the glory and the might forever and ever. Amen.
"Behold, He comes with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, and the ones who pierced" Him, and all the tribes of the earth "will wail on account of Him." Yes, Amen.
I am the Aleph and the Tav, the Beginning and the Ending, says Adonai YAHWEH, the One who is, and who was, and who is coming, the Almighty.
Renewed Covenant. (YAHWEH's promise and Restoration).
An irrevocable covenant solely established by YAHWEH's promise of "I WILL".
This covenant declares the YAHWEH would restore within His people a new Heart and Mind upon which the Torah would be embedded.
In Luke 22:20, the word 'NEW' that Messiah states (the Greek word Kainos) doesn't mean "something new" or unprecedented as we are led to believe and understand, but rather it is the word for "Freshness". (see note the Enigma of Hebrews 8)
So Yahshua was revealing a "FRESH" view or understanding of something already in existence - the Covenants of YAHWEH!
Taking the Covenantal relationship with YAHWEH to a whole new level!
The renewed covenant is the set up for the out pouring of His Spirit of Holiness, the Spirit of Yahshua Messiah.
The fulfillment of this began in the Books of Acts, at Shavuot (Leavened Bread / Pentecost) and the engrafting of all believers into the body of Messiah, His church, His House.
Jer 31:33-36 But this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the house of Israel:
After those days, declares YAHWEH, I will put My Torah in their inward parts, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
And they shall no longer each man teach his neighbor, and each man his brother, saying, Know YAHWEH. For they shall all know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them, declares YAHWEH. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more†.
So says YAHWEH, who gives the sun for a light by day, the laws of the moon, and the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar,YAHWEH of Hosts is His name†.
If these ordinances depart from before Me, says YAHWEH, the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me forever.
~ Jeremiah 31:31-34 is a promise of the New Covenant and is repeated in Heb 8:8-12. The Torah is the same but in the New Covenant there would be a different priesthood (Melchizedek) and the agreement about sin has changed through the blood of Messiah paying the penalty of sin.
Heb 8:8-10 For finding fault with them†, He said to them, "Behold, days are coming, says YAHWEH, and I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah; not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day of My taking hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I rejected them, says YAHWEH.
Because this is the covenant which I will covenant with the house of Israel after those days, says YAHWEH,
I will put My Torah into their mind, and I will inscribe it on their hearts†, and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people."
~ The weakness of the first covenant at Mount Sinai was not the Torah, which is Holy, just and good (Rom 7:12), but the inability for the people to keep it since the Torah can tell you right from wrong (Psa 119:105) but it can't change your heart.
~ Hebrews 8:10 The Torah or instruction of YHWH stays the same in any covenant of Israel. So does the people (Israel) and the land of Israel.
These 3 aspects never change in any biblical covenant.
New Testament and Today.
The fulfillment of the covenants is found in the New Testament, however they originated in the Old Testament.
While not all Bible scholars agree on every detail regarding these biblical covenants, it is clear that YAHWEH has made certain promises.
All of YAHWEH's promises are based on who He is and His plan for the world.
Under the Renewed (New) Covenant, which Yahshua sealed with His own blood,
everyone is offered salvation by grace through faith in Messiah and belief in who He is.
Act 2:21 And it shall be that everyone who shall call on the name of YAHWEH will be saved."
The revelation of YAHWEH through covenants in the Bible reveal His character and plan of redemption for humanity.
Each covenant - whether Edenic, Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, or Davidic - builds upon the last, progressively revealing YAHWEH’s commitment to His promises. They demonstrate His faithfulness, justice, and mercy, showing that YAHWEH’s dealings with humanity are rooted in His unchanging nature.
The Renewed Covenant, established through Yahshua Messiah's sacrifice, fulfills His other covenants and invites all people into a relationship with Him through faith, and guided by His Righteous Standards of Torah, Commandments and Statutes.
Joh 3:16-21 For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life†.
For YAHWEH did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might have life through Him.
The one believing into Him is not condemned; but the one not believing has already been condemned, for he has not believed into the name of the only begotten Son of YAHWEH†.
And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the Light, for their works were evil.
For everyone practicing wickedness hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, that his works may not be exposed.
But the one doing the truth comes to the Light, that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in Elohim.
~ John 3:16 The way to receive this everlasting life is to fully surrender one's life to Messiah as King of the universe and master over our lives.
~ John 3:18 This name is Yahshua meaning Yahweh's salvation.
Rom 3:31 Do we then nullify the Torah by faith? Far be it. On the contrary, we establish the Torah†!
